I. General introduction of 40kg/hr CO2 Recovery System
The 40kg/hr CO2 Recovery System is designed for small to medium-sized breweries, distilleries, wineries, and other fermentation-based production facilities seeking to reduce operating costs and improve sustainability. By recovering carbon dioxide generated during fermentation, the system provides a reliable source of high-purity, food-grade CO2 for reuse in production, while minimizing environmental impact.
The system captures fermentation gas, removes impurities and moisture, compresses and liquefies the CO2, and stores it as liquid CO2 for applications such as carbonation, tank purging, and packaging.

II. The working process of 40kg/hr CO2 Recovery System
The CO2 source is from fermentation gas generated in brewery fermentation tanks. The incoming gas first enters a foam separator to capture and remove any entrained foam. Next, the gas passes through a scrubbing tower, where water washing removes the vast majority of organic impurities and odors. The scrubbing tower utilizes advanced packing materials and specialized spray nozzles to ensure superior scrubbing performance. A gas buffer tank serves to stabilize the flow for the downstream processing equipment. The washed gas then enters the compression system, which features a dedicated three-stage CO2 compressor unit that boosts the gas pressure to 1.5–1.8 MPa. A refrigerated dryer serves as the primary drying stage, utilizing low-temperature dehumidification to achieve an outlet gas temperature of 2–4°C; the inclusion of this unit enhances the efficiency of the subsequent dryer. The chilled, dried gas then passes through an activated carbon adsorber to further remove organic impurities and odors. Subsequently, the gas undergoes deep drying; the system is PLC-controlled and capable of achieving an atmospheric dew point below -60°C. The CO2 liquefaction system consists of a CO2 evaporative condenser and an R22 condensing unit. The deeply dried CO2 gas is liquefied at low temperature (-18°C) within the CO2 evaporative condenser; gaseous impurities—such as N2O2—are purged as non-condensable gases during the liquefaction and impurity-removal process, thereby increasing the CO2 purity. The liquefied CO2 is stored in a cryogenic storage tank, which can be insulated with cost-effective polyurethane. The storage tank system is highly reliable and incorporates subsystems for automatic operation, safety venting, and liquid level monitoring.

IV. Main Configurations of 40kg/hr CO2 recovery system
Main Components Function Configurations
Foam Separator It is used to remove foam carried in the CO2 feed gas; the foam is eliminated by atmospheric-pressure water sprayed from the top of the foam separator, and the water is subsequently discharged into a drainage channel via a bottom drain assembly. The water spray pattern can be observed through a sight glass installed on the separator. - Capacity: 40 kg/h CO2
- Vessel diameter: 300 mm
- Height: 1500 mm
- Material: 304 stainless steel
- Internal spray system
- Automatic blowdown device
Sight glass
- High-level alarm switches
- Pneumatic butterfly valves
Water Scrubber The feed gas enters from the bottom of the scrubbing tower and flows counter-currently against the scrubbing water through the packing layer, removing alcohol and suspended particles; the scrubbed water is then recirculated through the demister. - Capacity: 40 kg/h CO2
- Diameter: 219 mm
- Height: 3000 mm
- Material: SS 304

- Circulating water pump, associated valves, pressure gauge
Air Bag The gas bag acts as a buffer between the CO2 feed gas and the compressor; the compressor's load is regulated by the bag's inflation level, meaning the bag's volume determines the frequency of compressor start-stop cycles. Constructed from high-strength, biaxially oriented, dip-coated membrane material, the bag offers a long service life and features a low-limit alarm mechanism. - Volume: 20 m³
- Diameter: 2000 mm

- Prevent ice blockage in the downstream CO2 condensation and liquid storage systems.
- Fully automated, unattended operation.
Adsorption drying tower The dual-tower adsorption dryer features towers packed with activated carbon and molecular sieves; the system operates via an automatic, periodic switching mechanism where one tower is online while the other undergoes regeneration. Each rack-mounted adsorption tower is equipped with an internal airflow distributor and an anti-impingement layer.
The activated carbon within the towers removes residual alcohol and odors, while the 3A molecular sieves dry the food-grade CO2 gas. Each tower operates on a cycle of approximately 12 to 24 hours (adjustable), utilizing non-condensable gases from the CO2 condenser and vent gases from the top of the storage tank for regeneration.
The adsorption towers are mounted on the equipment frame.
