The beer brewing water disinfection and sterilization method

Most people probably know there are four main ingredients in beer brewing: water, malt, hops and yeast. As the main components of beer, water is the first step to determine how your beer flavour would be. So when you decide your beer brewery equipment design, do not forget to confirm water quality before you confirm your premises.  


 
There several methods for the brewing water disinfection and sterilization:
 
1. Chlorine disinfection
As it is more difficult to use liquid chlorine, so the bleaching powder generally being used as replacement. But the brewing water, yeast cleaning water, beer filter water, diluted beer water etc cannot use this method.
 
2. Sand-filtering rod
This method is mainly for removing the microbes and impurities in water with the help of sand filter. But it cannot work on the dissolved salts or molecular impurity.
 
3. Ultraviolet sterilization
This method need to use the professional Ultraviolet sterilization machine as well. The ultraviolet with wave length at about 200-300nm with sterilization ability, the strongest sterilization should under the wave length at 260nm. This method is also available for the yeast cleaning water and beer diluting water.
 
4. Ozone sterilization
It generally need to use the professional Ozone sterilization equipment, a satisfying sterilizing effect could be reached with about 0.1~1g/M3 Ozone.
