The 2 Glycol chiller types for beer equipment
We are beer equipment manufacturer in China. The glycol chilling system is important for cooling wort and beer. We met brewmasters, some of them buy glycol cooling system from us, some prefer to source locally. In our experience, 2 kinds of glycol chiller are related. So I try to explain the chiller difference here, so you could chose the more suitable chiller if buy chiller locally. Let’s say based on a set of 20 bbl beer equipment.

Chiller Option 1:
Please check the attached principle A.
It is what we normally configure now.
The chiller chill the GWT (The GWT is normally big)→The GWT storage the cooling capacity and will chill the FV and CLT→ The CLT chill the wort through Heat exchanger.
In this solution, the chiller capacity is: 2 sets of 15HP, the cooling capacity of 1x15hp equals to 15000W/12900Kcal/h.
Chiller Option 2:
Please check the attached principle B.
It can be seen in some local breweries in USA.
The chiller contains a small glycol tank (such as 200L or 100L)→ the glycol chill the FV and CLT→ The CLT chill the wort through Heat exchanger.
In this solution, the chiller should be bigger than 2 x15HP. The reason is: The 200L or 100L Glycol tank is so small that can not store the cooling energy in advance, so the chilling capacity is bigger to chill the glycol quickly inline.
Any question or different opinion about our explain or beer equipment, welcome to leave message below or send us email.
