A Bright Beer Tank (BBT), also called a serving tank or conditioning tank, it is a stainless steel pressure vessel used in breweries to store, clarify, carbonate, and prepare finished beer before packaging or serving.
The main configurations of BBT mainly includes:
- Stainless steel 304/316L construction
- Glycol cooling jacket
- Pressure gauge
- Safety valve
- CIP spray ball
- CO₂ carbonation stone
- Sample valve
- Level tube

Is it necessary for all breweries?
Whether a Bright Beer Tank (BBT) is necessary for a brewery mainly depends on the brewery size, production style, and packaging requirements. It is not always mandatory, but it becomes highly beneficial when production volume increases.
1. For small craft breweries, for example below 1000L per batch, the bright beer tank is optional.
Many small breweries transfer beer directly from the fermentation tank (FV) to keg filler, bottling machine for canning machine. It has several advantages when we skipping BBT
- Lower investment cost
- Less floor space
- Simpler operation.
However, it also has disadvantages:
- Fermentation tanks are occupied longer
- Packaging efficiency is lower
- Beer clarification may be less consistent
2. For growing craft breweries, for example brew 1000L - 5000L per batch, we would recommend a BBT. The main reasons:
- Free up fermentation tanks
Fermentation tanks are the most valuable equipment in a brewery.
If without bright beer tank, the fermentation and conditioning has to be done in a tank, the FV cannot start a new batch until packaging is completed.
If with a brite tank, we can transfer beer from fermentation tank to bright beer tank, FV becomes available for the next fermentation. This increases annual production capacity as well.
- Better carbonation control
The BBT allows precise CO₂ carbonation, stable pressure control and consistent beer quality.
- Better packaging performance
Before filling, BBT provides stable beer temperature, stable pressure and reduced foam during filling. It improves filling efficiency.
3. For large breweries, above 5000L per batch, a BBT is almost always necessary. Industrial breweries normally have:
- Fermentation tanks
- BBTs
- Packaging line
Tiantai, provides turnkey solutions on brewery equipment, winery equipment, distiller equipment, cider equipment, mead equipment, kombucha equipment. If you are looking for bright beer tank, we are at your disposal anytime.
